Introduction To My ePortfolio

Welcome to my e-Portfolio! My name is Jeffrey Drivon, and my path toward a Master’s in Library and Information Science (MLIS) began in the fall of 2015. However, I didn’t realize it at the time. Fresh from completing my degree in Accounting, I had just accepted a multifaceted role at my alma mater. As a full-time teacher, I instructed students in accounting, coached football, and temporarily filled the librarian position until another departmental opportunity arose.

A few years into my tenure, my principal, who is also a friend, offered me a choice: remain in my current role or transition to a dual teaching position in accounting and religious education. I opted to stay, content with my responsibilities. However, I soon discovered that to continue as the librarian at this private school, I needed to earn a certain number of library science credits. Encouraged by my principal, I began to appreciate the benefits of pursuing an MLIS degree, recognizing its potential to open new opportunities both immediately and in the future. After some deliberation and looking at different universities, I enrolled at San José State University (SJSU) in the fall of 2020.

This e-portfolio documents my MLIS journey at San José State University from the fall of 2020 to the fall of 2025. It includes this introduction, showcases the Areas of Competency I have developed in library science, and concludes with a reflection on my experiences within the program and this e-portfolio. Additionally, it includes an affirmation that all work presented is solely my own. In preparation for the INFO 289 course, I compiled a separate portfolio to start gathering evidence relevant to each of the 14 competency areas. I reviewed the e-Portfolio: Critical Information, Competency Essays, Hints, Reminders, and Clarifications documents to fully understand the expectations for this semester and mentally prepare for the challenging work ahead. I approached each competency systematically, from A to O, without a specific strategy other than wanting to proceed methodically. For each competency, I begin with an introduction that provides insight into the subject area. This is followed by three pieces of evidence from my coursework over the past six years, demonstrating my understanding of the concepts presented. I conclude each section by discussing how I might apply the competency in my future professional roles, and I also mention what professional materials I plan to use for ongoing learning and development.

Throughout the process, I greatly appreciated the feedback from my advisor, which motivated me to improve my work for each subsequent topic in the lineup. This experience has broadened my perspective on librarianship and the diverse areas it encompasses. Enjoy exploring my journey!
